The AIBA, the organization that oversees Olympic boxing, has made a drastic change in the scoring system they use. This week, they announced they will drop their current points scoring system to a modified version of the professional standard of the 10 point-must system.

The new system will have five judges scoring the rounds, with a computer randomly selecting three judges for scoring. The old system relied on computerized scoring of punches. The hope is that the judging will be more transparent and popular than the old way.

The women’s division will still be using head gear, however, as the males will not be using them.
