Mia St. John has decided to hang up her gloves.

In an interview on ESPN this past weekend, St. John announced her official retirement from competitive boxing. She is coming off a third round loss to champion Cecilia Braekhus this past month.

At age 45, St. John has been one of the oldest boxing champ in the women’s divisions, having won the WBC light middleweight title last year over long time rival Christy Martin. This was a rematch of their battle in the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI in 2002. She had a 62 fight career, with 47 wins and 18 knockouts.

Besides her in ring credits, St. John was and still is an active media presence in the sport. She posed for “Playboy” magazine in 1999, and last year authored her own book “The Knockout Workout”. She has been on numerous tv shows, and video games. She currently does commentary and interviewing for Fox Sports Net, ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and various boxing PPVs.

Although we may not see her tangle again inside the ring, she will continue to contribute to the sport outside it. We wish her the best of luck.
